18 December 2019

London event caterer,Jackson Gilmour, has beaten off strong competition to win this year’s coveted Canapé of the Year Award. Judging took place earlier this month when 18 of the country’s top event caterers (restaurant and catering chefs) prepared their best canapé for judges; TV presenter and food critic, William Sitwell,Country Life Editor, Mark Hedges, co-founder of Plain English, Tony Niblock and chef Marianne Lumb. The winner was announced at a celebratory party at the Plain English Marylebone Showroom on November 27,2019.

Announcing the award, judge and food critic William Sitwell said:

“Soaring into first place was a decorative little parcel of heritage carrot and crab. It was fresh, tasty and elegant with a perfect balance of flavours. It was a nimble and original winner and taking the trophy was its creator Jackson Gilmour, a London-based company whose mantra is simply to provide for 'people who love food"

Jackson Gilmour’s winning canapé is ‘Heritage Carrot and Crab’; a jewel-like canapé presented on a simple white platter. Each gluten-free canapé is prepared from sustainably sourced Cornish crab with lime and chilli, yuzu pearls and caviar wrapped in a slender ribbon of pickled heritage carrot and topped with a squid ink tapioca cracker.

“Canapés are a personal passion so I am absolutely delighted that we have won this fantastic award, says Jackson Gilmour Executive Chef, Joyce O’Hagan. “Our benchmark for a good canapé is that it should deliver on flavour, colour and texture, and I am thrilled that the judges have recognised these qualities in our work.”

Jackson Gilmour handcrafts hundreds of canapés each year for private events and events in landmark venues across London and the home counties. Clients include businesses, not for profits and celebrities.
