On your bike!

Adventurous events caterers Jackson Gilmour are certainly doing their bit for charity. JG’s Operations Director Francis O’Hagan has recently completed a cycle ride across Zambia, raising almost £4,000 for TRANSAID, a charity that works to improve roads and transport links in developing countries.

Francis decided to get involved when Jackson Gilmour catered for TRANSAID’s 10th Anniversary gala dinner at the Imperial War Museum in October - one of the company’s growing roster of events for leading charities. Accompanied by 24 other TRANSAID supporters, he cycled the 420km from Lusaka to Livingstone in just five days.

“The work TRANSAID does is really inspiring,” says Francis. “I wasn’t much of a cyclist before, but this seemed like a once-in-a-lifetime experience for a very good cause. And while I was in Zambia I got a chance to see what a difference they make to people’s lives.”

The combination of the welcoming Zambian people, the awesome landscape and the comradeship of his fellow cyclists made this a week that Francis will never forget. And tackling the challenges of Zambian roads on a bike confirmed how much TRANSAID’s work is needed.
