JG's Environmental Promise
In January 2007 we became the first London event caterers to launch reduced carbon menus, and we have since established ourselves as a leader in socially responsible catering.
In 2008, at the Event Magazine CATERER OF THE YEAR Awards, Jackson Gilmour won a ‘HIGHLY COMMENDED’ award for our reduced carbon luncheon event for global mining company Rio Tinto, at which over 80% of the food was sourced locally.
We have provided reduced carbon menus for a growing number of clients who value our advice and flexibility. We believe it is better to make small changes that make a real difference, rather promising the world and delivering little.
Our commitment to lowering our carbon emissions is based on eight principles:
- We source local, free range food wherever possible, and with the added ingredients of our creativity and presentation, we ensure that reduced carbon menus look and taste every bit as exciting and mouth-watering as conventional menus.
- By focusing on seasonal produce we keep the food miles, and therefore the carbon emissions, down. Just because you choose a low-carbon option doesn’t mean it has to be more expensive, especially if the produce is in season.
- You can trust us. We have spent many months establishing excellent links with authentic and reliable local suppliers who share our views on the importance of sustainability and quality.T
- To extend our recycling/waste programmes we are working with our meat, fish and vegetable suppliers to reduce packaging ï€ a key environmental issue in purchasing. All our food suppliers are required to provide only the packaging necessary to comply with food safety requirements and protect food from risk of contamination
- We support the Fair Trade product range wherever possible if the products cannot be sourced locally.
- We strive to minimise waste caused by bottled water. Where clients are happy, we offer jugs of free tap water with a twist of lemon, and can also supply locally produced water.
- All our vehicles comply with the low emission targets. Our policy on company vehicles is to encourage the use of diesel fuel. Alternative fuel vehicle developments are being monitored, but these are not yet suitable for the nature of our operations and fuel availability is still too limited.
- We agree to LOCOG’s 2012 Fair Pricing and Sustainable Sourcing Code.
